Good health is a precious gift. Without it all other gifts taste insipid. When a man gets old he realizes that he has been running around all his life behind wealth and fame and never stopped to savor the good food he was offered. He repents for his mistakes after losing his fourth sense.

Event Annoucement: Cooking with Seeds - Coriander Seeds

Who in this blogosphere not know Priya of Priya's Easy and Tasty Recipes. She is truly a super chef and fascinates me every time I visit her blog. Just look at her recipe index, you will know what I am talking about. She flawlessly mixes and matches the ingredients to create a truly unique and tasty recipe. Hats off Priya.
When she announced a new event series in her blog and invited guest hosts, I quickly ;-) wrote back to her and said hey I want to host this interesting event in my blog. At least one time I quickly reacted to something :) Thanks a bunch Priya, it is a honor to host this event.

My dad and My husband both says this when you have less clothes in your wardrobe it is easy to pick what you want to wear. Initially picking the seed wasn't that easy when I had zillion of choices in front of me. But I had to pin down and chose CORIANDER Seeds. Ain't it exciting to cook with this such a flavorful seed in your kitchen. Come on dream about it. YUMM YUMM. I am already thinking about a rich and creamy hot curry, a flavorful rice, a cuppa hot chai and maybe even a dessert. OK, let us wear our apron, get those kitchen gears and start cooking something really nice for this event.
Guidelines:
  • Post any dish cooked with Coriander Seeds between now and 4th April 2010.
  • You can cook both Vegetarian and Non-Vegetarian and send me as many entries you want.
  • Link to My Event announcement and Priya’s Event Announcement page.
  • No worries if you have the recipes in your archives. You can repost or update the post with a link to my post and Priya's post.

Event Announcement: Food for 7 Stages of Life -

(Disclaimer: Some or Most modern men wouldn't fit in to these lines.)

"And then the justice,
In fair round belly with good capon lin'd,
With eyes severe and beard of formal cut,
Full of wise saws and modern instances;
And so he plays his part.
"

How beautifully Shakespeare has written about the middle aged men. In this stages of life man tends to have a round belly but still they appear neat with formals and trimmed beard :) They are full of ego, feel superior and assume they are knowledgeable. This is what the poet wrote :) Now, think about a man between 35-55 years and read the above lines again.
I don't want to get into a debate now if this is true or not. Let me come back to this month's event. When I was trying to associate this stage with the event of the month(Lunch box Ideas), I had a hard time in deciding the title. So I started listing the props that these men would use, and this is what first came in my mind 'TIFFIN BOX or LUNCH BOX'. My imagination was only limited to this.. lol. This is why I posted a Guess game in my blog, to know what you all think these Middle aged men would use. And Thanks for the interesting answers each one of you gave.
According to wiki:
"Tiffin is lunch, or any light meal. It originated in British India, and is today found primarily in Indian English. The word originated when Indian custom superseded the British practice of an afternoon dinner, leading to a new word for the afternoon meal"
Lunch box is usually referred as Tiffin box in India.

The rules of this event are fairly simple.
Rules:
  • Post any lunch box recipe between now and 5th March 2009 11.59 pm EST.
  • It could be a simple meal or an eloborate 4 course meal (Ideal for the 4 tier tiffin box :) ).
  • It would be nice if you can make them healthy.
  • You can use any ingredient and send me as many entries you want.
  • Link to My Event announcement and Sudeshna’s Cook like a bong (co-host of this event) page.
  • No worries if you have the recipes in your archives. You can repost or update the post with a link to my event announcement and Sudeshna’s Cook like a bong page.
  • Do not have a blog, you can still participate in this event. All you need to do is send me your recipe in the Word (doc, docx, rtf) format with a picture of your dish.
  • Send me your entries with the subject line as ‘Food for 7 stages of Life – Tiffin Box(35-55 yrs)’ with the below details to foodfor7stagesoflife(at)gmail(dot)com / foodfor7stagesoflife@gmail.com

  • Display the logo of the event.
Winner & Giveaways**** Going forward the winner will be chosen by Raffle method or through Random.org, this is applicable from Kids Special Event. This decision was made due to some bad experience with the polling  method.
  • 12 of you will enter a mega raffle that would be conducted at the end of the series, of which 7 will be the winner of each month and 5 will be randomly picked up. The winner will receive a surprise gift. It will be shipped across the world. The Winner of the previous editions are Sandhya Hariharan of Sandhya's Kitchen and Sadhana & Muskaan of A2Z Vegetarian Cuisine, Nisha of Nisha's Kitchen
  • There is no more surprise as I have a beautiful gift to share. The Winner of this event series will receive "The BloggerAid Cookbook" and it will be shipped across the world.
  • It is not done yet. Sudeshna came up with a wonderful idea that we should compile the event series into an e-book. So your recipes will feature in this e-book which will be available for free download at the end of this event. The e-book will have a short write up on each author and a special article on the winner of the series. Ofcourse we need your consent to publish your recipe in our e-book.

These are the symptoms when holidays come to an end and we enter into the fast paced part of our life. Food for 7 Stages of Life - My first blog event

I am glad to host my first blog event and many thanks to Sudeshna of ‘Cook like a Bong’ who agreed to co-host with me. The concept of this event is “Food for Seven Stages of Life”. This will be a series of event from Sep 2009 until March 2010, 1 stage per month. It might sound similar to Shakespeare’s poetry but I have tweaked it little bit so that it could be more interesting and relevant for us to cook. Here we go with 7 Stages.
  • Pregnancy (Zero hour) - September '09: A very crucial stage in a woman’s life. Whatever we eat during those 9 months counts a lot. Woman has to pay so much attention so that she doesn’t have problem at the Zero hour. You can prepare any course of a meal for this stage.
  • Infancy (0-4 yrs) - October '09: Baby food needs to be prepared with much care. We need to ensure that they get necessary nutrients in the first few years that would help them to be healthy with good immune system. The dishes should be simple, easily digestible, tested and used by you. It could be gruel, soups, steamed vegetables or fruits or just a bowl of mashed bananas.
  • Childhood / Kids corner (5 -13 yrs) - November '09: Kids are really finicky about food. It is very hard to please them. At the same time the food prepared for them needs to be healthy and presentable. It could be any course of a meal like Salad, main course, soup, juice, snacks except Desserts(includes pastries, ice-cream or any baked food)
  • Lover / Desserts & Pastries (14-24 yrs) - December '09: You, I and everyone love desserts. So this event goes to Dessert lovers i.e., for each one of us. You can submit any baked food, ice-creams, pastries or any desserts that you could think of.
  • Soldier / Fast food (25-35 yrs) - January '10: At this stage we enter a fast paced world where everything needs to be done so quickly. Freak out with your imagination and post any fast food recipes. Could be from bhel poori to a burger or anything of your choice.
  • Justice / Healthy Lunch box meal (36-55 yrs) - February '10: Healthy Lunch box meal for adults. This is one stage where a woman in the family faces lots of challenges. My mom finds hard to cook a proper meal for my father. As men want it to be tasty as well as healthy. You can cook any healthy lunch box meal for this event.
  • Old Age / Food for Ailments (56-… yrs) - March '10: This is the stage when we fall sick. This event is basically to prepare meal for those who are suffering. Hence attention needs to be paid in detail. You can prepare any course of a meal for those who are old, diabetic, with high/low blood pressure, cholesterol or any other ailments you could think of. I believe at the end of these events we will have a repository of recipes for different stages of life. This could help many who are miles away from family and everyone else.

General Rules

  • Post 1 or more recipe(s) for each stage. They should be relevant to the theme. Example: for the infancy stage the posts should be related to baby foods like kanji (gruel) etc. Couple of stages requires you to post recipes that are tested and used by you. (MANDATORY)
  • Our ancestors have passed on the abundant knowledge to us over generations and I think this event should be a platform to share it among us. Post home remedies, health or general tips, shlokas that would be useful for that particular stage. Please ensure that you post tips or remedies that has been applied or used by you. This is OPTIONAL, so please don’t feel compelled :-)
  • Would appreciate if you can post detailed recipe(s) with elaborate pictures of each dish.
  • You must display the logo of “Food for Seven Stages of Life” in your post and link it back to My Event Announcement and Sudeshna’s 'Cook like a Bong'. This is MANDATORY :-)
  • There must be some reward after all this hard work. A poll will be conducted to choose the recipe of the month (round up will be published at the end of each event.). The recipe of the month will be published in my facebook page http://www.facebook.com/foodfor7stagesoflife and the photo of the dish would appear in the profile photo with the winner’s name and blog name.
  • No worries if you have those recipes in your archives or if you had already submitted it for another event. If you think those recipes are relevant to our theme, you can still repost and link it back to this event.
  • Rules will be announced separately for each theme.
